The Tradition of FRIENDS CARING FOR FRIENDS
The Hall of Fame "Foundation" deeply
appreciates your interest. Established in 1991 with a cash
donation and
proceeds from a Shaggers' Hall of Fame Induction weekend, a
fund has been accumulated which is available to provide financial
assistance to people of all ages and circumstances. These grants
are based only on financial need regardless of race, religion,
dance style or any other categorization.
The Hall of Fame "Foundation" is not connected with
the Shagger's Hall of Fame, Inc. The "Foundation" is
chartered in the State of South Carolina as an eleemosynary
organization with IRS 501(3) (c) tax-exempt status. Historically, "Foundation" contributions
have come from shaggers and shag-affiliated organizations and
activities.
The "Foundation" is
managed by an eleven member Board of Directors. All are volunteers.
Vacancies are filled
by the Board. Only persons who have an extensive and proven
record of significant community service are selected.
All contributions
to the Hall of Fame "Foundation" are
deposited in unrestricted interest-bearing investment and checking
accounts. Intricate rules and procedures are in place to insure
the integrity of your donation. Typically, annual administrative
and operating expense to income ratio is three to five percent.
This is extremely low. The only operating expenses paid from
contributions are postage and supplies, telephone, financial
reports by a Certified Public Account and limited travel expenses
of Board members. The "Foundation" has NO salaried
positions.
The Long Range
Plan for the Hall of Fame "Foundation" is
to acquire a principle sufficient to remain in perpetual trust.
Interest from the trust will provide for grants and assistance
to applicants approved by the Board of Directors. The principle
will remain intact in perpetuity.
TYPES OF FOUNDATION GIFTS
There are six
ways for individuals and groups to give to the "Foundation":
1. Cash
2. Transfers of stocks and bonds
3. Transfers of real estate ownership
4. Life insurance beneficiary
5. Life income from assets
6. Bequests
To date there have been thousands of dollars donated, and
many requests for assistance have been satisfied. Your attorney,
CPA, or financial planner can advise you on the tax advantages
your gift may afford you.
The "Foundation's" Board
of Directors will acknowledge your gift, along with proper
documentation
for tax purposes.
When appropriate, a letter of acknowledgment will also be
sent to an honoree.

We've accomplished
a great deal. But so much more must be done. To continue
our work,
we need
your help to "Care
for Friends". What's been most important to the "Foundation" in
the past has been "word of mouth" referrals: people
like you telling others about us. Every year the challenges
we face are substantially greater than those of the previous.
We need you to join us and be part of this important cause.
We need your support, and you need the benefits of our important
work. For those who have understood our goals in the past,
for those who will participate in the future...thank you, and
may you reap one hundredfold the goodness that you sow.
